Xero and Anthropic Unite to Give Small Firms an AI CFO

Xero and Anthropic’s multi-year partnership brings Claude’s AI reasoning into small business financial workflows — and Xero’s data directly into Claude.ai.

Xero and Anthropic announced a multi-year partnership Thursday that will embed Claude’s artificial intelligence directly into Xero’s small business platform — and bring Xero’s financial data and tools into Claude.ai — giving millions of small business owners and their accountants real-time financial intelligence without switching between systems.

The deal marks the first time Xero customers will be able to work with their financial data inside a major AI platform. For Anthropic, it represents one of the most concrete deployments of Claude into everyday business operations at scale.

The practical stakes are straightforward. Small business owners spend considerable time on questions that should have immediate answers: why cash flow is tight, which invoices are overdue, and whether payroll is sustainable. Today, finding those answers typically means navigating multiple reports manually. Under the partnership, Claude will surface those insights and recommend actions proactively — before the business owner thinks to ask.

Central to the integration is JAX — Just Ask Xero — the company’s AI superagent, which will be powered by Claude’s reasoning capabilities. JAX will handle end-to-end financial tasks across accounting, payroll, and payments: analysing revenue and profit performance, tracking cash flow in real time, and flagging unpaid invoices with suggested next steps.

On the Claude.ai side, users will be able to bring live Xero financial data — revenue figures, profit margins, outstanding invoices — into conversations for deeper analysis and scenario planning. A business owner considering a year-end position, evaluating a hiring decision, or stress-testing a growth plan will be able to do so within a single environment, combining their own financial data with external market context.

Data responsibility, both companies said, is foundational to the arrangement. Financial data shared between the platforms is used exclusively within a user’s active session and is never used to train Claude’s underlying models — a commitment Xero framed as consistent with its existing data use principles.

“Small businesses and advisors don’t just need data; they need a digital partner that acts on it,” said Diya Jolly, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Xero.

“Instead of spending hours trying to make sense of their financials on top of everything else it takes to run a business, customers get clear answers and recommended actions in real time,” said Chris Ciauri, Managing Director of International at Anthropic. “This provides small businesses and their advisors with the kind of financial intelligence that used to require a dedicated analyst or CFO.”

The Claude-powered features within Xero, and the Xero integration within Claude.ai, are expected to become available in the coming months. As part of the agreement, Xero’s own engineering teams will also adopt Claude and Cowork — Anthropic’s desktop automation tool — to accelerate internal product development.
